Diagnostic Radiology Residency - Rochester General Hospital

Director’s Letter

Welcome to the Rochester General Hospital Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. Our hybrid academic-private practice model prepares trainees to provide quality readings with efficient throughput. The majority of radiologists in the US work in private practice; our residents gain the experience needed to thrive as professionals after graduation. Our goals for residency training are threefold:

  1. Instill a passion for radiology that will drive you throughout your career.
  2. Provide the knowledge and skills required to excel as a radiologist.
  3. Prepare you for financial and personal well-being after residency.

Education is at the forefront of our program, with Core curriculum-focused lectures, multidisciplinary conferences, and numerous online resources for asynchronous learning. We also deeply care about your life outside of radiology; our curriculum includes topics such as personal finance, stress reduction, and leadership. A small class size of five residents per year allows for camaraderie and spontaneous mentorship opportunities.

As we evaluate applicants, we value diversity in personal and academic experiences. Please use the ERAS Supplemental Application features to highlight what makes you unique. Thank you for your interest in our residency program.

How to Apply

Applicants to the Rochester General Hospital Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program are required to apply using ERAS. We highly encourage utilizing the supplemental application to highlight what makes your application unique. If you apply to both our DR and IR residencies, there will be a single interview day (but ranking for each program is done independently).

We start reviewing applications in early October. We typically have three interview weeks, with the final week scheduled in mid-December. MD/DO/MBBS/ECFMG candidates are all encouraged to apply. Our institution sponsors J1 visas. We require a minimum of:

  • Complete ERAS application (including CV and medical school transcript)
  • 3 Letters of reference (at least 1 from radiology)
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Personal Statement
  • USMLE Step 2 CK and/or COMLEX Level 2-CE score
Applicants should contact their medical schools, or see the ERAS Web site for more information on this service.

Deadline for Application: October 31
