Diagnostic Radiology
Rochester General Hospital
Director’s Letter
Thank you for your interest in our Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at Rochester General Hospital, a tertiary care center and the main teaching hospital for the Rochester Regional Health system. Serving a population of over 1.5 million people across four hospitals and many imaging sites, our program offers residents extensive exposure to a wide breadth of pathology and diversity of cases. We interpret over 600,000 exams annually, including specialized coverage of the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care and the Lipson Cancer Institute. Our residents are well prepared for a career of providing high-quality interpretations with exceptional efficiency.
Key features of our program include:
A Hybrid Academic-Private Practice Model: Experience the best of both worlds—opportunities for research and teaching while developing progressive independence and the efficiency required for private practice.
A Close-Knit Community: With a class size of 5 residents per year, our program fosters strong camaraderie among residents and meaningful mentorship with faculty.
Preparation for a Well-Rounded Career: Our robust core radiology curriculum is complemented by lectures on essential non-imaging topics such as Workflow Efficiency, Financial Wellness, and the Business of Radiology.
We seek candidates with diverse personal and academic backgrounds and encourage you to utilize the ERAS Supplemental Application to showcase what distinguishes you as an applicant. We are excited about the possibility of welcoming you to our program and look forward to meeting you during the application process.

How to Apply
Applicants to the Rochester General Hospital Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program are required to apply using ERAS. We highly encourage utilizing the supplemental application to highlight what makes your application unique. If you apply to both our DR and IR residencies, there will be a single interview day (but ranking for each program is done independently).
We start reviewing applications in early October. We typically have three interview weeks, with the final week scheduled in mid-December. MD/DO/MBBS/ECFMG candidates are all encouraged to apply. Our institution sponsors both J-1 and H-1B visas. We require a minimum of:
- Complete ERAS application (including CV and medical school transcript)
- 3 Letters of reference (at least 1 from radiology)
- Dean’s Letter
- Personal Statement
- USMLE Step 2 CK and/or COMLEX Level 2-CE score
Applicants should contact their medical schools or see the ERAS website for more information on this service.
